my name is ruth, hello. |
Hello, I'm Ruth and I'm an artist living in London.
In 2011 I graduated in Digital Interaction Design from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. My degree has lead me on to creating artwork with a unique twist to it. Every piece of art I do, whether it be a card or an illustration, is unique. I have always loved personalising my own stuff, and I want to replicate it in my work. I love creating patterns and using colour in my work. One of my interest is maps. I love that maps are unique pieces of art, yet an every day tool for us. My honours project focused on creating a illustrated map of New York City that is personalised for every user. www.ruthtullis.com xoxo |
Happy Birthday

Happy Mothers Day Card.
When I was in New York in November I came across Rifle Paper Company at the Museum of Modern Art. I loved the colour and typography of the cards and wondered what I could do with that inspiration.

When I experimented I tried with watercolour, but it felt quite weak, I wanted stronger colours so changed to gouache which gave a much stronger, brighter feel to the cards.
Watercolour and GouacheĀ
I decided to go with gouache and got painting…

Christmas presents wrapped.
Another year in London, and its that time to design some more Christmas cards.
When I was in New York I bought some New York stamps that I wanted to use. which gave me the idea for a christmas city scene theme. I have been enjoying stamps for a while now and last years cards were also involving stamps; a snow globe. I really enjoy the texture stamps give on the paper.

I worked away on my sketchbook coming up with ideas to incorporate the Christmas into the city stamps using pens, ink, stamps, gouche and watercolour.

I came up with an idea that mixed media; stamps, pens and paint, and had to chose Christmassy colours, green and red to work with it.
Little Christmas trees lining the streets of New York wishing everyone a happy Christmas!
I decided to go with the red text to make it more colourful and use the traditional Christmas
colours.
