my name is ruth, hello. |
Hello, I'm Ruth and I'm an artist living in London.
In 2011 I graduated in Digital Interaction Design from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design. My degree has lead me on to creating artwork with a unique twist to it. Every piece of art I do, whether it be a card or an illustration, is unique. I have always loved personalising my own stuff, and I want to replicate it in my work. I love creating patterns and using colour in my work. One of my interest is maps. I love that maps are unique pieces of art, yet an every day tool for us. My honours project focused on creating a illustrated map of New York City that is personalised for every user. www.ruthtullis.com xoxo |
On Thursday 8th September I went into Central London to have my first experience of Vogue’s Fashion Night Out. I am a Vogue subscriber and have been reading about Fashion Night Out since it started and always wanted to go along. I looked online and there were lots of different stores taking part, and as much as I wanted to go to everyone I knew it wasn’t possible and left to my more experienced friends to take me to the right places.
We started the night queuing at Alexander McQueen. As I’ve said before, I love Alexander McQueen and respect and admire Sarah Burton for continuing the brand in a brilliant, refreshing yet typically McQueen fashion. My friend and I had filled out a form so we could get a limited edition McQueen key with a unique code that could win us a bag (I have not yet checked if I have won, but with the keys being up for grabs in all cities that had Fashion Night Out, I doubt it would be me!) Although I am starting a full time job next week, I have to be careful of my money so I had already decided no big spending to be done, but treated myself to the limited edition Fashion Night Out official t shirt designed by Rob Ryan. I love Rob Ryan’s work and have been following his work for some time, and it was great to see an artist I love being involved in fashion, two creative industries working together.

We then went to Oxford Street and visited Topshop, where we were disappointed as nothing seemed to be going on, Urban Outfitters which was jam packed, Ted Baker, Karen Millen (where I saw Carol Vorderman!), Cos, and Reiss, before giving up and filling our stomachs with pizza. Overall, a very good, but tiring night. So many people were out in so many different styles, some made lots of effort, some were dressed straight out of vogue, some were straight out of work, and some came casual, I went somewhere in between, wearing heels before giving up and changing into sandals about an hour in. A good night had, and hopefully next year I will still be in London and be right back, with more knowledge of where I want to go for next year. I will start planning now!
